AKA Spell Checking.

Appears to be down for the count (throwing a 502 error) as it comes back with no misspellings even on grossly misspelled words - even on YaBB installs where it worked that last time I checked. (Which was last week sometime.)

Fortunately, GoogieSpell isn't needed. Spell check can simply be enabled in browsers. Cool

Except for MSIE where the user has to go get an add-in and many of the users on my boards can't figure that part out.  Roll Eyes

I know what you mean about Internet Explorer. But of course, using ieSpell is quite easy; just right-click the text box, and you're in business.

Funnily enough, of 5 suggestions listed, one place with instructions on "how to spell check on Internet Explorer" came with suggestion number 5 as follows:

Quote:
Grab a dictionary if none of the above options work. Find the correct word in the dictionary and type it in.

Uh, okay. Roll Eyes

Admins can of course include a FAQ section in their forums so that people needing help to enable a spell checker can find solutions. Then again, if a person wants a spell check option badly enough, they'll very likely search for a solution on their own.

My preferred browser is Firefox because misspelled works are automatically highlighted with a squiggly red underline. Right-clicking the word pops up a spell check menu.

Morning, noon, or night, have a great one!

It was throwing the same error on its own demo site this  morning.

There have been calls to remove GoogieSpell from YaBB as most browsers have built in spell-checks (MSIE was the one hold-out). If this goes on for very long, yanking it out of YaBB might not be a bad idea.

Wow! Internet Explorer 10 isn't kidding around with its spell check. For many words it auto-corrects misspellings. If you type a word very badly, it will mark it with a red squiggly line underneath the misspelled word so that you can right-click a correction.

Also, as John pointed out, the default setting is to have Internet Explorer update its software automatically.

Speaking of automated updates, another forum software pretty much does the same thing. It's amazing! When I logged into that forum, I was notified that an update was available, and with one click, presto, the forum software updated itself.

Hopefully, one day YaBB will have a one-click solution to automatically update its software. Pretty please!  Cool

But I digress. Cheesy

Morning, noon, or night, have a great one!

Hi Dandello:  Is there an email address to let google know they have issues with the server for google spell.  It may be a bit premature to eliminate the spelling module from Yabb.  It will be a while before everyone who uses IE to ( and there is a lot) upgrade to IE 10.  If they only release this browser for Windows 8 then it will be much longer.  What the hell were they thinking when they released that piece of technological garbage.   Angry Angry  My Rant for the day.  Grin  Bruce

Unfortunately, it's not Google but Googie by Orangoo Labs (aka amix) (and the link to the license in the YaBB Admin center is bad.)

I just dropped a note to amix and hopefully this will either get fixed or he'll tell me the program is dead.

Looks like it's not going to work anymore. And a paid solution simply isn't going to fly.
