I dont know who to contact, but since yabb is who powers the site for Dr. Bernsteins book diabetes-book dot com  I am writing to you.  For some reason I get
Banning Notification. Sorry, you are banned from using this forum! when I try to register.  The registration format here is similar to the one on Dr. Bernsteins site, so I am taking a shot to see if anyone can explain why I am banned?  I have never been on that site before yesterday.

You can click here for the contact information for that site.

From what you've stated, chances are that you're using an IP address that was previously banned.

Morning, noon, or night, have a great one!

Sorry we could not help you further, however found another forum which discusses topic. Might be worth registering there as they do discuss his books?

I guess it's good that you came here. Hopefully the doctor's forum will be operating normally again so that you can participate.

Same here. Sad

The doctor was out when I called, but I left a fax with pertinent information so that he'll be aware of what's going on. Wink

I'm just following what you always do in the way of helping fellow YaBBers (just as Dandello and xnoddyx go out of their way to offer support).

On that note, I received an email from the moderator of Dr. Bernstein's Diabetes Forum, which read in part:

Quote:
Your email/fax was forwarded to me ...

We have a very bad problem with spammers, and so have implemented stronger measures to deter them, but with the unfortunate consequence that legitimate registrants are also "banned." We are trying to find a work around for this problem, but so far haven't been successful ...

The forum has over 15,000 members ...

I sent Carolsoc a PM regarding my contact with that moderator because it didn't seem appropriate to publicly reveal the moderator's email address here in the forum.

Thankfully as you and the rest of YaBB's team members already know, YaBB actually has some pretty effective anti-spam options available to its administrators.

Must admit, the doctor's site could do with an email form.

I usually point folk to This

Good advice.

Because of spammers, I've seen quite a few YaBB forums that have shuttered their registration page altogether. Unfortunately, many of these same forums don't offer alternative ways to register, nor is there any contact information. For people who want to register, that has to be very frustrating. Logically, those frustrated people simply leave to visit other sites, and to register in other forums.

Happily, YaBB's newer versions will give admins easy-to-enable anti-spam options. But until then ...

Admins/webmasters who haven't been schooled in how to install anti-spam measures can simply add an individualized registration page to YaBB's menu.

In other words, you would do the following (based on YaBB 2.4):

1. In Admin Center, go to Forum Settings > Members and scroll down to Select the registration scheme for this forum.

2. Select Only admin can register new members and click Save (this disables YaBB's default registration page).

3. Wherever you want it in your forum, start a new topic called, "Register in our forum" and post your individualized instructions about how to register (possibly as follows in the quoted text below).

Quote:
Because of spammers, registration in our forum is done manually. Please email this address, and give the following information (copy and paste it into your email message):

Your desired log in name:

Choose user ID (used only for identification and login purposes):

Choose displayed name (this can be the same as your user ID):

Your email address (your login information will be sent here):

Note: By default, your email address will be hidden from the public. If you want to make it public, you can change this in your control panel (User CP) after you have logged into the forum.

To help stop spammers, please answer the following question: What is 2 + 7?

After sending your message, a forum administrator will set up your membership and email you a temporary password. Included will be instructions for changing your password. Also included will be our forum's User Agreement. Please read it. Thank you.

You should receive your login information in a timely fashion, usually no longer than 24-48 hours. After that, please feel free to send an email to this address if you haven't received your login information.

4. In your YaBB menu click the Add a tab option ().

5. In the Text box type "Register" without the quotes.

6. In the URL box type or paste the address of the topic you created in Step 3 above (do NOT include http:// - but DO include www and the rest of the address).

7. Check New window or leave it unchecked.

8. Make sure Visible to is for Guests + so that everyone can see the Register menu tab after you've created it.

9. In the Add after section, simply choose Front since a glitch in Add a tab only works with that choice.

10. After testing to see if the Register tab works as it should, click the Edit tabs icon ().

11. To the right of your menu tab items you'll see Reorder Tabs: (highlight Register and move that tab where you want it one step at a time) .

That's it! You will have created an individualized registration page with instructions for how people can register in your forum.

John, thanks for letting us know. So does this mean YaBB 2.5.4 doesn't have the option to add items to YaBB's menu? If so, that would be very odd ... and surely an oversight.

Or is there another, and better way to manage YaBB's menu instead of the way it's being done now? I'll hope that's the case.

Please let us know. Smiley

I made it an admin option for those buttons to show because they drive me crazy - extra buttons you rarely use and hard to get properly formatted.

Good to know. Cool
