Just so you know - my personal take is to start as strict as possible and loosen up when/if members come back and say they've started having problems. On my own forums the only things I have checked is RSS, print and the 3 loginout routines and that's because, on one forum, I have a secondary domain pointing to the primary domain and that causes issues when being forwarded from. Most people won't have that problem.

RSS needs to be checked, and Print. (Those do get legitimately called from outside the domain.) The others really shouldn't need to be checked unless you know that someone is showing your recent topics or such on their website and you're okay with that.

can you check this post out and see if it's the same errorlog.txt corruption http://www.yabbforum.com/community/YaBB.pl?num=1351872351/14#0

I followed the directions from this post
http://www.yabbforum.com/community/YaBB.pl?num=1351872351/32#32
And almost 24hrs later not a single problem. ~ Thanks!

What if any boxes should be checked in the referrer security section?

In this case I think other bad characters (as in symbols) are sneaking through, too.

Our 2.4 no longer has this problem, and I think it's because I followed Dandello's previous advice about how to fix this (evidenced here).

Ironically, that advice was actually posted in this topic back on June 9th (referenced here). Remember? Wink

Can't guarantee it BUT, when my 'working' forum was on 2.4 way back when, I saw a lot of these. Haven't seen one in ages since going to 2.5.2.

if your error log don't look like this then download and make a backup of the errorlog.txt remove all entries in the log then upload it back and check if it is ok.

Will do that the next time I see the file is corrupt. In the past I have just deleted the contents without saving the old file.

I would hazard a guess that it's still a related problem - the registrants are putting in names that have unacceptable characters in them, bolluxing up the .pre files AND bolluxing up the errorlog when it tries to document the error.

I wouldn't be surprised if that is the case - I'm a more than a bit nervous about upgrading. Do you think that will cure the problem?

Edited:
I received this form a member
Quote:
I found a work-around by using the "forum jump" box at bottom right on the pages. But, after several attempts from different locations within the WR I still could not access the home screen by clicking on the tab.

I think he is saying that the problem only effects the main forum page and not the other pages as he goes through each board.

I'll test this out at the next opportunity

Lets see if that works Dandello, thanks

This morning I noticed the Variables/errorlog.txt was corrupt. Is this somehow a connected problem?

What happens if you turn off Encrypt User IDs in the Admin->Security Settings? In the most recent examples the file names have periods in them. I don't think that's allowed in 2.5+
