Well, Don Jusko would benefit from going to…

Admin-->Forum Settings-->Members Tab-->Registration: Select the registration scheme for this forum--> ….and select any other than “Only Admin can register new members”. Bob’s your uncle and it’s done!....

I am sure new members would be able to register then Wink

Got a response :

Quote:
I fixed it, I think and hope.. It wasn't my forum like my server said or my site that was the problem. It was an Apple mail program for Mac that was hacked.
I changed my password and took that email name (donjusko@) off the list of email names that I had. I changed that main email address that all other names go to also.
I couldn't test it yesterday because the spammer took my email account to the maximum 1000 emails and I couldn't send anymore.
But today all my emails were sent and I don't have any "return to sender" in my inbox.
So I think my hacker problem is fixed.

Would you stop by my forum and say hi?
Your User Name is *******
Your Password is *******
I signed you up hoping you would join, it would be great to have a top man as a member.
I think something is wrong, I used to get new members and the forum was very active.
I upgraded and now new members are rare and posts just don't happen.

Well - "I" couldn't find a register option...

I suggested again that he start a link this time in Think Tank

C. I think your biggest problem (for getting users) may be not having the 'register' button/link available on the forum.

D. I still recommend asking for ideas on Yabbforum.com - virtually everyone who goes there runs a YaBB forum and most have experience with how to attract users and keep things going.

Good Luck & thanks for the update

That and Guardian can send hundreds of notifications in a short time if 'send' email is checked in the various options.

If you only have one solution to a problem you're not trying hard enough!

From a 'webmaster@yabbforum.com'  e-mail
Quote:
I hope you are the webmaster, I just want to get on to ask a question.

My forum is at, http://www.realcolorwheel.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi
1000 emails came from donjusko@realcolorwheel.com (one day)
That is my mailbox that all other email gets forwarded to, and clean-up
I deleted that account.
I don't really want to delete the forum but I may have to.
Can I get some help?
Don

Yes, I am the webmaster (and a current leader of the YaBB project).

From your description its had to figure out what the problem is.

In particular, you say 1000 emails came from donjusko__@real color wheel .com'

Do you mean your forum sent that many e-mails?  You may have an open mail relay or something else entirely - I just do not have enough information.  Did this just start recently?

The best thing to always do is post a support question on the General Help forum

http://www.yabbforum.com/community/YaBB.pl?board=featuretroub

There are a good number of people just like yourself who can help includin the current deleopers of Yabb and many users..

Smiley

then you get advice not only from me, but form other YaBB forum admins -- and others can see whatever solutions are provided.

ideas?

Cool
